Take Back Efforts Across New Mexico

Despite the challenges of COVID-19, there are still many take back efforts ongoing in New Mexico to prevent and address the opioid epidemic. With the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day coming up on October 24th we have listed below the safe disposal locations throughout the state.


The Las Cruces Police Department has established four collection sites at Wal-Mart locations, where Deterra safe disposal bags will be available as well.

  • The San Miguel County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and New Mexico Highlands University will be hosting a take back event from 10 am to 2 pm at Melody Park. There will be a drive thru area where you can drop off any medications, including: pills, ointments, creams, syrups, vape pens & accessories, and needles in their proper containers.
